Students will learn how to use possession in Potawatomi. They will also learn that certain things such as body parts and relatives are always treated as possessed. It's someone's grandfather or someone's leg.
Relatives in Potawatomi can be a little more complicated than in English. It often matters if it is a woman's relative or man, whether a person is older or younger, and also if it's your uncle's boy or aunt's girl. This somewhat complicated kinship system was important to early clan structure and so a person knew their role in the community.
